Frequently Asked Questions

Event

What is Footloose Friday?
Friday 12 June 2009 is Footloose Friday. It is the signature fundraising event of Wesley Mission Brisbane. It's a fun day where participating fundraisers wear purple on their feet in show of support for Wesley Mission Brisbane and its goal to provide Emergency Relief funding to less fortunate Australians in direct need of financial help.

Why Purple Feet?
Wesley Mission Brisbane's purpose is to give those in need a hand up - essentially getting them back on their feet. And purple is a colour that radiates positivity, fun, quirkiness and responsibility.

Why Friday 12 June?
Historically for some, winter is the hardest time. It is the time when struggling families are hard pressed to pay their electricity bills, medical bills for colds and flu or have adequate warm clothing and a hot meal at night.

The Cause

Who does Footloose Friday help?
Footloose Friday helps struggling Australian families on the brink of homelessness and in direct need of funds, goods or services. By providing a financial "hand up" it helps them stay off the streets and assists them through their hard times.

Where does the money go?
The money goes to Wesley Mission Brisbane Emergency Relief Appeal.

How do I donate?

  • You can donate a one off payment here.
  • Register by becoming a supporter and pay a purple $5'er.
  • By buying a pair of purple shoelaces here.
  • Or by becoming a fundraiser through www.everydayhero.com.au you can get family, friends, workmates and colleagues to sponsor you for wearing purple on your feet, and by doing this, you will help others to get back on their feet.

Joining In

Who can participate?
Anyone can join in Footloose Friday, including individuals, schools, community groups, clubs, pubs, hospitals, hotels and businesses.

How do I sign up?
If you would like to sign up click here. You can begin fundraising with an online kit immediately. If you're under 18, you must get permission from a parent or guardian and your school before you commence.

Can a team of us take part?
Absolutely, the more the purpler. We encourage you to take part with a team of friends, workmates or club members if you can.
Start a team and nominate yourself as the team leader. Team leaders can set the teams' fundraising goal, recruit more team members and keep the enthusiasm going in the lead up to the day when everyone goes purple on Footloose Friday 12 June.
Team leaders can sign in to the website and send an email to invite people to join their team, or people can search for your team and join it online.

When do donations have to be in by?
All donations and monies raised must be received no later than 3pm Friday 26 June 2009 to enable process of receipts prior to end of financial year, 30 June 2009. Monies received after 30 June 2009 will not be backdated.

Purplizing Your Feet

Where can I buy some purple shoelaces?
From this website and from participating retailers.

What other purple items are for sale?
At this stage only shoelaces are available but as the event grows so too will the range of purple footwear. This won't stop you going out and buying fashionable purple tights, purple socks, purple slippers, or for the conservatively shy, purple toenail polish.

Can I collect the money as I go, or do I wait until after the event?

Can I knock on doors in my street to ask for donations?
No. Doorknock collection is not permitted, or supported by Wesley Mission Brisbane. If you wish to let your neighbourhood know of your desire to participate in Footloose Friday, simply direct them to the website to participate, or to sponsor you, direct them to www.everydayhero.com.au link within the same website.

In many council areas around Australia, door knocking is illegal without a special permit.
